LeCH ANGER
LANDSTADT BAYERN - LANDSBERG-AM-LECH, DE - 2023
NEW HOUSING MODEL
Aiming to create innovative blueprints for new housing models in rural municipalities, Lech-Anger is a concept by LIA Collective, Superworld and studio audal. As one of the 10 model sites of the initiative ‘Landstadt Bayern’, this proposal is situated in the historic town of Landsberg am Lech.
The masterplan Lech-Anger brings together the historic urban morphology of the Anger and the meandering flows of the nearby river Lech, shaping a neighborhood based on connectivity, diversity and human-scale architecture. As a clear statement for sustainability and future-proof urbanism, the scheme is based on three principles: bio-based construction, collective energy systems and inclusive spaces for all beings.
Sustainability and landscape-based solutions stand at the core of this 4.5 hectare project. As a central part of the scheme, the Anger has been translated into a 21st century version of its ancestor: an urban pedestrian spine, designed as an edible forest where people can come together and grow their own produce. The 200+ housing units are positioned around the Anger. Each cluster of units, arranged in a semi-urban friendly scale, wraps around collective courtyards, allowing the inhabitants to gather and grow herbs and vegetables.
LANDSCAPE BASED SOLUTIONS
Between those ‘human spaces’ a network of resilient wet areas meanders in the shape of natural swales and elevated terraces. On top of offering precious space to create and maintain biodiversity from the preserved existing forest, they grant the neighborhood a resilient rainwater management strategy. A dense network of paths enable a high degree of internal permeability to the area and link it to the surrounding neighborhoods and the historic center of Landsberg am Lech.
Two central squares within the Anger facilitate ways for residents to come together in the form of markets, festivities or just on a daily basis going to one of the programmed facilities adjacent to the plazas, like a bakery or a community center.
With the aim for sustainable housing and durable materials, phasing plays an important role. Therefore, the current site, vacant for development, will be transformed into a nursery. The pre-growing on site of various materials will start in the first phase, with straw and willows for the construction materials as well as a nursery for the future trees of the urban plan.
